February’s programming brings attention to naturalist and geologist Charles Darwin’s contributions to science. Darwin Day is observed in the United States and throughout the world.
To commemorate Darwin Day, Friends of the David M. Brown Planetarium will be hosting a Darwin-themed Trivia Night. Following the 30-minute trivia session, a 1950s B-movie, “The Giant Gila Monster,” presented by the cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) will be shown.
MST3K features a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped on a satellite in space and forced to watch a selection of terrible movies, especially science fiction B-movies. The space travelers keep a hilarious running commentary going on during the film, making fun of its flaws and wisecracking their way through it in the style of a movie theater peanut gallery.
